Please come join us to discuss the proposed zoning changes to the Southold Town zoning code. We will be walking through the proposed changes for Orient and what it means for the community. We will provide information on how to share your feedback and comments with the Town.

Heather Lanza, Southold Town’s Planning Department Director presented an overview of Southold’s Zoning Update progress and coordinated breakout sessions for the audience to discuss and document their concerns about Southold’s Zoning Update, with a focus on Orient’s interests and participation in the process.

​Orient Association held its annual meeting on Saturday June 8th at 2:00 pm at Poquatuck Hall. After the business meeting our guest speaker Mary Anne Taylor presented the results of the Orient Water Management Study.

Orient Association hosted the Southold Emergency Management Committee and Southold Highway Department holding a forum on May 4, 2024 at Poquatuck Hall to inform and take questions about emergency preparedness in Orient and how the Highway Department prepares and deals with emergencies.

The Future of Southold – Shaping the Zoning Code to Reflect Your Concerns

Southold Town Planning Director Heather Lanza shares a brief history of zoning in Southold and explains the current project to update the zoning code to help implement the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.

The town code includes regulations about many things that affect us including short-term rentals; building size and construction, noise; our visible environment including signs, lighting and dark skies; RV, trailer and boat storage; landscaping and dumpsters. Code compliance and enforcement (or lack of it) often comes up in our community meetings. It impacts many of the things that recent surveys say we value. Learn how code enforcement works and some ways it might be improved, and your role in ensuring compliance and enforcement.

The Orient Association had its annual membership meeting on May 27, 2023 starting at 9:30a in Poquatuck Hall. President Barbara Friedman reviewed the accomplishments of, and issue being addressed by the Orient Association over the past year and our prospective plans going forward.
