Septic Upgrade Outreach Panel
Wed. May 8 6pm at Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library. Free registration required. Join Peconic Baykeeper for a panel discussion on the importance of septic upgrades. This discussion is designed to help the community explore the process of septic upgrades, the environmental benefits of upgrading and to address questions or concerns raised by the public. Community members will have an opportunity to submit questions prior to the event and in person on the evening of the event.
Southold Emergency Management Committee and Southold Highway Department Forum
Hurricane season starts June 1, 2024 and the National Hurricane Center predicts a very busy season. Are you ready?
Don Fisher, Southold Emergency Management Committee Co-coordinator of Communications, will give an overview of how residents can best prepare their families and homes to respond to weather events and other emergencies in case of prolonged power outages.
Dan Goodwin, Superintendent of the Southold Highway Department, will give an update and general overview of the Highway Department, work in Orient Hamlet that has been completed, and projected work in Orient that has been identified.

The Future of Southold – Shaping the Zoning Code to Reflect Your Concerns Southold Town Planning Director Heather Lanza shares a brief history of zoning in Southold and explains the current project to update the zoning code to help implement the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.
Annual Orient Village Halloween Trick-Or-Treat
Wear your costume and come trick-or-treat in Orient! There will be candy stations and participating houses on Village Lane, Skippers Lane and Oysterpond Lane.
Town Code Forum
The town code includes regulations about many things that affect us including short-term rentals; building size and construction, noise; our visible environment including signs, lighting and dark skies; RV, trailer and boat storage; landscaping and dumpsters. Code enforcement (or lack of it) often comes up in our community meetings. It impacts many of the things that recent surveys say we value. Learn how code enforcement works and some ways it might be improved, and your role in ensuring compliance and enforcement.
Orient Association 2023 Annual Meeting
The Orient Association had its annual membership meeting on May 27, 2023 starting at 9:30a in Poquatuck Hall. President Barbara Friedman reviewed the accomplishments of, and issue being addressed by the Orient Association over the past year and our prospective plans going forward. Vice President Drianne Benner presented additional details and Treasurer Tony Asch presented the financial state of the organization. The slides from their presentation are shown below.
Earth Day Cleanup
Gather your friends together to pick up litter in your neighborhood or on your favorite beach. Separate out your trash from the recyclables and bring to Poquatuck Hall at 11:00am on Saturday. The Orient Association will be offering refreshments and prizes, and will dispose of the trash.
