Hurricane season starts June 1, 2024 and the National Hurricane Center predicts a very busy season. Are you ready?
Don Fisher, Southold Emergency Management Committee Co-coordinator of Communications, will give an overview of how residents can best prepare their families and homes to respond to weather events and other emergencies in case of prolonged power outages.
If shelters are required, volunteers will be needed to help operate them. There is an upcoming “How to Staff a Shelter Course” scheduled to be held in Orient on May 18th. Please consider taking the course to help your neighbors.
Dan Goodwin, Superintendent of the Southold Highway Department, will give an update and general overview of the Highway Department, work in Orient Hamlet that has been completed, and projected work in Orient that has been identified. He will go over some of the difficult aspects we face in the community such as flooding and would appreciate the residents’ input on how the highway department can provide better service to Orient.

Orient Water Resources Study Is Finally Here!
In 2022 the Orient Association embarked on a comprehensive study of Orient’s water resources: fresh, salt and waste. It’s finally complete! Our hope is that this report informs the community about how our water ecosystems work, presents hard data about those ecosystems, sets up the challenges and opportunities unique to Orient, and offers some options for the future. We invite you to join us on this deep dive into Orient’s waters!
